As I’ve started to vlog, I’ve started asking myself a lot of questions, and I thought I’d get a few of them down and put some answers together so that I can see where I started whenever I need to reflect on how far I’ve come.
Why did you start vlogging?
I love blogging, but I don’t always get a chance to sit down and really share my day to day life. I find that blogging comes at times of true inspirationg or creativity so I’m restricted unless I feel like blogging. Vlogging on the other hand allows me to capture those daily moments of my family that we may not otherwise capture. To caputre the images doesn’t require too much thought or planning generally. Editing everything together does, but I love the process of learning a new skill and there is just so much to learn about video editing that no edit is ever the same and may not ever be. So I guess I started vlogging to capture daily life in our family and to learn a new skill to add to The Humble Mum journey.
Who inspired you to vlog?
During my maternity leave I got really in to watching YouTube vloggers. I thought, “I can do that” and when I started doing The Humble Mum stuff, I was keen to give it a go. My husband wasn’t keen on the idea and it wasn’t until he had to put himself out there for work that he saw the value in doing it, and the challenge that comes with editing a video together. When my husband became supportive I was still pretty cautious to start out and then I watched this video from Keiara Moore’s channel (make sure you subscribe). After watching that video, I was inspired to just do it.
What equipment do you use to vlog?
At the moment, I’m trialling the vlogger lifestyle. So for now I use:
I have an idea of what I’ll need eventually to do the level of production that I’d like to. My dream set up will probably change by the time I can justify it, but it would be a professional level camera, tripods for all occassions, camera mount for my car, MacBook of some description and Final Cut Pro… a girl can dream right?
